Pontypool Phoenix Runners keep the relay moving at Pontypool parkrun

Last week, the Easy Pacers Cwmbran passed the official Run Wales Social Running Celebration Relay baton to Pontypool Phoenix Runners. This week, the Phoenix Runners enjoyed their two laps of the lovely Pontypool parkrun course.

The Celebration relay provides all Run Wales registered groups with a tremendous opportunity to showcase their group, sharing information about their activities and encouraging more people to participate in social running outside of their regular weekly parkrun.  We are encouraging groups to support their local parkrun by offering to volunteer as well as run, jog or walk at the relay events.

41/48: Celebration Relay Run Report – Pontypool parkrun

Yes! The baton finally arrived at Pontypool parkrun with Anne from Pontypool Phoenix Runners carrying the baton on 2 laps around the beautiful Pontypool Park.

A few of our members were away on the day but we were also lucky to have Liam Godfrey, our late founders son running who then took the baton from Anne.

The parkrun course in Pontypool is very interesting and does include a couple of hills but nothing to be afraid of 🤣🤣 finishing by the stands of Pontypool Rugby Club.

It’s well worth a visit, we promise!

Pontypool Phoenix Runners was established in 2018 by Ron Godfrey with the aim of encouraging local people to take up running, get fit and make friends along the way.

We run various distances and cater for all abilities – from complete beginners to experienced runners and everything in between.

We are a friendly group with multiple opportunities to run together every week, so come and join us!

This week 97 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 27 were first timers and 8 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 15 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 11 volunteers:

Shelagh ADKINS • Barrie PARHAM • Justin POCKNELL • Terry SCREEN • Keith LANGLEY • Richard JONES • Dimitri VORRES • Ena MORRIS • Barry FITZGERALD • Toby WALES • Gareth BURKITT

Today’s full results and a complete event history can be found on the Pontypool parkrun Results Page.

Pontypool parkrun started on 23rd November 2013. Since then 6,734 participants have completed 42,072 parkruns covering a total distance of 210,360 km, including 7,438 new Personal Bests. A total of 672 individuals have volunteered 6,046 times.

The Celebration Relay baton is heading north once again as its next stop is Newtown parkrun in Powys, where the Maldwyn Harriers Ladies and Sunday Striders will be celebrating their social running groups!
