Our thanks to local Run Wales group <\/a>Run Grangetown<\/a> for their epic adventures with the baton this week, which culminated in their participation in the Run Wales Social Running Celebration Relay<\/a> at Grangemoor parkrun<\/a>, where they met up with members of BRF Running Club,<\/a> amongst others. Enjoy the contributions from both groups in the run report below!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Celebration relay provides all Run Wales registered groups<\/a> with a tremendous opportunity to showcase their group, sharing information about their activities and encouraging more people to participate in social running outside of their regular weekly parkrun.  We are encouraging groups to support their local parkrun by offering to volunteer as well as run, jog or walk at the relay events.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past week Bryn the Baton\u2019s adventures took him to Grangetown. For those of you unfamiliar with the delights of Grangetown it is a peninsula in southern part of Cardiff that in 1850 boasted a solitary building the Grange Farm, but by now is a bustling and vibrant community and home to Run Grangetown<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team at Run Grangetown<\/a> took Bryn to visit such highlights as the Himalasdas, the Grange pub (he only had a soft drink), the Grange Pavilion where he may have tasted one of Zara\u2019s excellent brownies capped off with Chicken Tikka roll at Lahore Kebabish. Tired out from the tour of Grangetown, he offered the resident Canada geese a relay race, but they weren\u2019t that interested!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bryn\u2019s next task was to join the Run Grangetown team on their regular weekly sessions \u2013 Tuesday and Thursdays come rain or shine from Channel View Leisure Centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though looking a little lonely here, Nilushi\u2019s warm up quickly got everyone in the mood for baton carrying, which led to some fartleks around Parc Hamadryad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here perfect baton passing technique was demonstrated by Lowri and Jonny (one of our most recent qualified LiRFs).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

By Saturday, Bryn was quite exhausted from his adventures on the peninsula so headed down to Grangemoor parkrun<\/a> in search of a PB. Here he was passed at least 20 times between the Run Grangetown runners \u2013 all of whom welcomed Bryn\u2019s company (apart from Steve who dropped him … twice!). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our last official duties as Bryn\u2019s custodians was to pass him on to the safe keeping of BRF for more adventures in the week to come. Great morning at Grangemoor parkrun<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were 167 runners, including a stag do Dunning running training and a lady celebrating her 100th park run!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Run Grangetown<\/a> team ran with Bryn the Run Wales relay baton, swapping between their club members and doing a fabulous job before handing it to 4 BRF Running Club<\/a> ladies. We met the lovely Leon again who paced myself and Wendy Twomey a couple of weeks ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Women Running Penarth were present running and volunteering as well as some Vale Runners<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weather was kind \u2026 rain held off!

This week 167 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 24 were first timers and 17 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 26 different clubs took part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grangemoor parkrun started on 31st October 2015. Since then 6,847 participants have completed 42,598 parkruns covering a total distance of 212,990 km, including 6,413 new Personal Bests. A total of 809 individuals have volunteered 6,180 times.<\/p>\n\n\n

Next weekend, BRF Running Club<\/a> will be taking the relay baton to Trelai Park parkrun<\/a>, before it moves on to Llanishen Park parkrun<\/a> the following week, so join the fun and find out more about social running opportunities in the area!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Run Wales<\/a> team would love to hear from any other social running groups in the area or anyone who is interested in establishing a new group<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
