With just two more events remaining, the parkrun baton relay really is on the home-straight now, with the latest outing beside Llyn Tegid marking the 46th out of 48 events. After traversing and navigating all round the varied landscapes and terrains of Wales, this weekend marked its final outing in the Gogledd, before heading south to conclude its journey. This week the baton enjoyed its lakeside outing with Rhedeg Siwan Elenid<\/a>, a weekly female group led by Siwan herself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Run Wales Social Running Celebration Relay<\/a> provides all Run Wales registered groups<\/a> with a tremendous opportunity to showcase their group, sharing information about their activities and encouraging more people to participate in social running outside of their regular weekly parkrun.  We are encouraging groups to support their local parkrun by offering to volunteer as well as run, jog or walk at the relay events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants woke up on the morning of Saturday 5th to once again here the sound of the rain against their windowpanes, a situation that has become a frustratingly regular occurrence this summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the weather, directors from this weeks venue, Pont y Bala parkrun<\/a>, reported that there were smiles all round and despite its best efforts the rain most definitely did not stop the fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pont y Bala parkrun <\/a>is by now a well established event, recently celebrating its 4th anniversary in the April of this year, reaching a centenary of events just two weeks ago! The course is run almost entirely on gravel paths, travelling from the Northern edge of Bala to the Northern edge of Llyn Tegid along the river Tryweryn. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This week Bryn the baton was in the capable hands of Siwan Elenid and the members of her group, Rhedeg Siwan Elenid<\/a> based locally in the town of Bala. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siwan and the group have two sessions per week, both on a Thursday night. First there is a session for beginners and those new to running, before a later group who do a variety of different types, terrains and distances, having fun along the way. Whatever your personal goal might be, the group can offer you help in a supportive environment. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

As a recent highlight, many of the group members completed the 10k on a sunny Sunday in Barmouth. Do get in touch via the group finder on the Run Wales site <\/a>or on Facebook <\/a>or Instagram for details of any upcoming spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week 95 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 58 were first timers. Representatives of 19 different clubs took part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pont y Bala parkrun started on 13th April 2019. Since then 2,918 participants have completed 5,822 parkruns covering a total distance of 29,110 km. A total of 160 individuals have volunteered 1,041 times.<\/p>\n\n\n

Keep an eye out as next week the baton heads to Merthyr parkrun<\/a> for the penultimate relay event! <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
