We realised so many people were intimidated by clubs and club runners, but still wanted to run, so we decided to give the our beginner, or social group it\u2019s own name that distinguished it as a separate group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Aim of Group:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To successfully introduce running in a safe and enjoyable manner.<\/li>\n<li>To demonstrate good practice<\/li>\n<li>To keep participants motivated to progress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>And of course, to make running fun!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is it for?\u00a0 <\/strong>Those completely new to running and\/or those coming back from long term injury\/layoff<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background: <\/strong>On our launch night, there were just two of us\u2026\u00a0 so Bean and I mapped out a short course, (so the evening wasn\u2019t a complete waste of time).\u00a0\u00a0 Back to the drawing board, a bit more communication and social media activity \u2013 and slowly word got around and we grew, and grew\u2026 and grew some more.<\/p>\n<p>We have grown to a group regularly attracting 80+ runners a week, and the number of Leaders has grown from 1 to 14, and we have 4 Leaders trained to support visually impaired runners too.<\/p>\n<p>We soon realised that driving members into the \u2018official\u2019 club was actually just a secondary reward \u2013 the main rewards are helping people achieve their goals, supporting our local community and sharing our expertise.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4199\" src=\"https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/First-steps-december-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/First-steps-december-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/First-steps-december-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/First-steps-december-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/First-steps-december-48x36.jpg 48w, https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/First-steps-december.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>This year, over 30 First Steppers did their first 10k race, we received this feedback &#8211;\u00a0 \u201cthank you guys, without the time and effort your guys put in to this group, today wouldn\u2019t have happened.
