Run the World Challenge comes to Wales in aid of Cancer Research UK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dan Thompson will be completing 10km runs in Cardiff – on Tuesday 31st<\/sup> July 2018 \u2013 and in Swansea \u2013 on Wednesday 1st<\/sup> August – as part of his Run the World<\/a> Challenge. The runs are being supported by Run Wales.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Run the World is an extraordinary challenge that has been created by Dan, a British businessman and sports enthusiast, who has undertaken to complete a 10km run in all 206 countries in the world by the 2020 Olympics \/ Paralympics.<\/p>\n

Dan is also completing 45 runs in the UK, taking his global total to 250 runs. Which is equivalent to running 2,500,000 meters – one metre for every cancer sufferer in the UK.<\/p>\n

Following the recent death of his mother from cancer, Dan is doing the challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK and to promote the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n

Anyone wishing to join or support the run in Cardiff should meet from 6:20 pm on Tuesday 31st<\/sup> July 2018 at the Start \/ Finish area of the Cardiff parkrun (on the Taff Trail alongside the Tesco Extra building; CF14 3AT. The run will start at 6:40 pm with a welcome speech and group photo at 6:30 pm.<\/p>\n

Anyone wishing to join or support the run in Swansea should meet from 5:20 pm on Wednesday 1st<\/sup> August 2018 at 360 Caf\u00e9 Bar (SA2 0AY). The run will start at 5:40 pm with a welcome speech and group photo at 5:30 pm.<\/p>\n

Dan commented, \u201cI\u2019m very much looking forward to running in Cardiff and Swansea\u00a0and am delighted that Run Wales is supporting the runs. <\/em>I\u2019d like to stress that everyone is welcome to take part – irrespective of their level of fitness or running <\/em>speed. Participants are also welcome to run part of the way, join in on a bike or just come along and support the runners!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Dan added, \u201cCancer rates are on the increase across the world and, in the UK, it is now projected that 50% – half of us \u2013 will get cancer. That\u2019s a terrifying statistic.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>\u201cThe good news is that cancer treatments and survival rates are improving as we continue to invest in research. The other good news is that <\/em>lifestyle changes could prevent 4 in 10 cancers. An active, healthy lifestyle also substantially reduces the risk of a range of other illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, dementia and depression.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em>\u201cI hope that, by running around the UK and the world, I\u2019ll not only raise a lot of money for cancer research, but I\u2019ll also help increase awareness of the huge benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Claire Cullen, Senior Local Fundraising Manager for Cancer Research UK said, \u201cWhen I heard about Dan\u2019s challenge, I was hugely impressed with his incredible mission to run 10K in every Olympic country in the world to fundraise for us.\u00a0Cancer Research UK don\u2019t receive any government funding so it\u2019s inspirational individuals like Dan that help to fund our ground-breaking research, raising money to beat cancer sooner.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
