We hope that in the stead of these races that our lovely community can come together and use it&#8217;s energy and innovation to take part in the 2.6 challenge to help save the UK&#8217;s Charities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7020 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/green-black-tag@3x-300x193.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/green-black-tag@3x-300x193.png 300w, https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/green-black-tag@3x-768x494.png 768w, https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/green-black-tag@3x-1024x659.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>Charities facing an estimated \u00a34 billion shortfall due to Covid-19 pandemic <\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4><strong>The 2.6 Challenge begins on Sunday 26 April<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of fundraising events across the UK have been cancelled due to Covid-19 with a devastating impact on charity income that means many charities are facing closure.<\/p>\n<p>The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) CEO Karl Wilding estimates that the UK charity sector will lose \u00a34 billion in income as a result of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the organisers of the biggest mass-participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help save the UK\u2019s charities.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign, <strong>The 2.6 Challenge<\/strong>, will launch on Sunday 26 April \u2013 what should have been the date of the 40<sup>th<\/sup> edition of the London Marathon, the world\u2019s biggest one day annual fundraising event, which raised \u00a366.4 million for charities in 2019.<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7022\" src=\"http:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/Running-Woman-215x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/Running-Woman-215x300.png 215w, https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/Running-Woman-768x1071.png 768w, https:\/\/irun.wales\/app\/uploads\/Running-Woman-734x1024.png 734w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From Sunday 26 April, the public is asked to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to Save the UK\u2019s Charities via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twopointsixchallenge.co.uk\">twopointsixchallenge.co.uk<\/a> <strong>The 2.6 Challenge <\/strong>is open to anyone of any age \u2013 the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<strong>The 2.6 Challenge<\/strong> can be anything that works for you,\u201d <\/em>says Nick Rusling, Co-Chair of the Mass Participation Sports Organisers group (MSO) and CEO of Human Race. <em>\u201cYou can run or walk 2.6 miles, 2.6km or for 26 minutes. You could do the same in your home or garden, go up and down the stairs 26 times, juggle for 2.6 minutes, do a 26 minute exercise class or get 26 people on a video call and do a 26 minute workout \u2013 anything you like. We want people to get active, have fun and raise money to help Save the UK\u2019s Charities by giving money or raising funds for the charity close to your heart.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFor many of the UK\u2019s charities, the day of the London Marathon is the biggest fundraising day of the year,\u201d <\/em>said Hugh Brasher, Co-Chair of MSO and Event Director of London Marathon Events. <em>\u201cOne of the founding pillars of the London Marathon was \u2018to show how the family of mankind can be united\u2019. We hope that <strong>The 2.6 Challenge<\/strong>, which starts on the day our 40<sup>th<\/sup> Race should have taken place, will embody that spirit and inspire people, families and communities to fundraise for their chosen charity to help Save the UK\u2019s Charities. Right now, our vulnerable members of society need the help of charities more than ever before. The design and website has been created by Studio Republic and the social media campaign by LiveWire Sport.
