Run Wales

Friday Focus – Rhyl Runners

We’re welcoming Rhyl Runners to Friday Focus this week, here’s a little bit about the North Wales group.

Rhyl Runners has been pounding the Prom for over 4 years and can regularly be seen in the local area trying out new routes and taking part in races and events.

The group members also help out by volunteering their time at events including the Prestatyn 5km and Junior parkrun.

They pride themselves on being inclusive with a mixture of runners of different pace, different distances and different goals catered for. No-one is ever left out and sessions are adapted so all members have a run for them.

Group member Mike says ‘I’ve Been a Rhyl Runner since 2017. I’ve seen so many people starting here as complete beginners and fall in love with running just as I did. Totally supportive and inclusive group for all levels and gender even if I’m the only male regular😩 . Amazing and a credit to the ethos of the group to see some of those beginners now confident fully fledged run leaders’.

A regular date for a run and a catch up with the very best bunch of people! – Janette, group member.

The variety of runners is demonstrated in their love of different types of running and events, from 5kms, 10kms, half marathons to full marathons and one member doing her first Ultra in September.

Of course that goes hand in hand with the social side of the group, enjoying a BBQ after lockdown and currently planning the Xmas night out!

With 3 run leaders, the group is looking forward to September when another 0-5km course will start. The funds from the course will pay the course fees for another run leader with a view to encourage more male participants into the group.
