The Run Wales Celebration Relay gets off to a flying start in Prestatyn

A perfect morning in Prestatyn with just a small amount of wind set up the launch of the Run Wales Celebration Relay.

The Celebration relay provides all Run Wales registered groups with a tremendous opportunity to showcase their group, sharing information about their activities and encouraging more people to participate in social running outside of their regular weekly parkrun.  We are encouraging groups to support their local parkrun by offering to volunteer as well as run, jog or walk at the relay events.

1/46: Celebration Relay Run Report – Nova Prestatyn parkrun

Kicking off the relay, local group Rhyl Runners were out in force to volunteer and run the Nova Prestatyn parkrun course. With many members of the group already actively supporting the event it was fantastic to shout about our wonderful group.

The Celebration Relay baton completes the first of its 46 leg journey!

Rhyl Runners has been going for 4 ½ years and we welcome anyone from beginners to those more experience. We have a variety of members who cover different distances and paces, from 5km to ultra-marathons. Whatever your ability we cater for you, with 3 awesome Run Leaders who will help you to settle in and find your feet!

Our group members took on a variety of roles today including marshals, finish tokens, timekeeper, first timers briefing and tailwalker. Plus we had 2 runners carrying the baton around the course.

The baton is safely escorted along the prom by Rhyl Runners

The course here is mostly run along the prom, starting at the west end of the Nova building. The baton hit some bumps as the route veers off the prom and along the ‘off-road’ section of the course across the common and along the sandy track. It is great to have a variety of surfaces to run on before getting back on the prom and heading to the finish line next to the Offa’s Dyke sculpture (the polo mint).

If you’ve never volunteered before then have a look at the variety of roles available, as well as ensuring that the event goes ahead it will give you a huge sense of satisfaction and a big smile on your face to cheer on all the participants. Dave and the team would appreciate your email to be added to the parkrun volunteer roster.

Congratulations to the 85 people who completed Nova Prestatyn parkrun this week, this included 21 first timers to the event.

Huge congratulations to parkrun regular runner and volunteer Jan Carfoot who finished her 100th parkrun today. Well done Jan.

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Eva BREWER, Jennifer EVANS, Samantha EYRE-WILLIAMS, Janette GREENHALGH, Abi HEWITT, Val JONES, Martin KING-SHEARD, Fiona MARSTON, Tom MCGUINNESS, Denis NEWE, Claire OWENS, Karen PEARSON, Mike PEARSON, Julie ROBERTS, Cathy WHITTINGHAM, Stephen Robert WHITTINGHAM, David G WILLIAMS

Rhyl Runners join the Nova Prestatyn parkrun volunteers

Huge thanks to Rhyl Runners for writing this week’s Celebration Relay Run Report

Next weekend, the relay will be visiting Greenfield Valley parkrun, so join the fun and find out more about social running opportunities in the area!

So the relay baton has started its journey to every parkrun in Wales, courtesy of our amazing Run Wales groups, as they celebrate and share the joys of social running. You can follow the baton’s progress and find out how to get involved as it continues its journey towards a big finish with a mass participation event next year!
