Badass Mother Runners had “great day” at the Run Wales Relays

Last weekend the Run Wales Relays took place at the Welsh Relay Championships in Pembry Country Park, Llanelli. 17 social running groups turned up to take on the challenge. In teams of 3, they had to run 2 miles each using a slap band as a baton (which only added to the fun). The atmosphere was full of support and excitement with many family members and friends coming down to support.

One group which had a enjoyable time were the Badass Mother Runners. They are an online community which support one another through social media such as facebook and Instagram but they pulled a team of three together which included Bev, Nat and Suzie, to take part in the event. Nat Edwards wrote a blog about her experience running the brand new relay event for the first time. She said, “Today I took part in the Run Wales Relay at Pembrey Park and I loved it. This is not something I would look to do or take part in but I was asked by my fellow BADASS Mother Runner Suzie and pretty much couldn’t say no.”

She continued, “I felt a bit anxious about it as I’d not done anything like this. 5k, 10k, half marathon… I’ve done all of these but today was a shorter, faster race, just 2 miles (3.2km) per runner AND I was running with a team (faster runners than me too). As I’ve been training for the half marathon I’d been relying on my run/Walk method and concentrating on the longer distances rather than speed.”

Nat ran the second leg of the race and had to try her best to hold back the nerves. She said, “Then it was my turn… No turning back. Took the baton and headed off. I needed to take it easy as didn’t want to wear myself out. 1km down and I was impressed with my pace. 6.17/km. That’s the fastest I’ve run. Then I started talking to myself to motivate me with lots of “You can do this” and so on.” She went on to finish in a time of 20 minutes 14 seconds with an average pace of 6:17 which was one of her fastest runs ever.

The ladies completed their first 3×2 mile relay race in 58minutes. Speaking after the event she said, “What a team! We didn’t make the top 3 but we did pretty damn good for a non running club team! In our eyes we did awesome. Today has been a great day.” She went on to say, “ I love being part of the BAMR online community. We’re not an official running club but the online group allows us to express ourselves freely, talk about running with no judgement and ask questions without any fear of feeling embrassed.”
