Big Social Run Swansea

Last month’s Big Social Run in Swansea showed a huge turnout of over 60 runners. West Wales Run Leader, Sharon Leech said, “The run was really successful, 60 runners in total, which was good for a Bank Holiday week and the end of the summer holidays, especially as many of the locals were unable to come at the last minute, as Swans had announced a couple of weeks previously that they were to play a Cup game that night!”

The route was devised by Chris Lewis, run leader of Swansea Striders, along with some of his running colleagues.  Each distance had three or four run leaders, many of whom were local and familiar with the routes.  The 8K and 10K crossed over at one point, so runners could switch distance if they so wished. Sharon said, “The 5K was buggy friendly and one runner did run with her toddler son, so it was inclusive. Chris did a lot of work on the routes, being local he knew where he was going.  Rob has been away and so was less able to offer as much help this time in the run up to the event, but led the fun warm up last night and was also a run leader. Both of them worked extremely hard to ensure the event and the runs all went smoothly.”

A 3k, 5K, 8K and 10K route were availiable, the 5K and the 10K being the most popular distance.  Many of the Run Wales 100 Cardiff Half runners were present, using the 10K as a training run. Sharon said,  “It was good to have the company and chat along the route.  The route went along the Tawe river, on the cycle path from Morriston toward Swansea, the furthest turn point at Liberty Stadium.  There was plenty of variety, with a loop of the lake at Llansamlet also included.”

Run Wales would like to say a massive well done to everyone who took part and it was great to see such a positive turnout. Thank you to Chris Lewis and Rob Campion for their hardwork and support running the successful Big Social Run event.
