Swansea Striders celebrate social running at Swansea Bay parkrun

The Swansea Striders were this week’s Run Wales baton bearers as they participated in the Run Wales Social Running Celebration Relay at Swansea Bay parkrun.

The Celebration relay provides all Run Wales registered groups with a tremendous opportunity to showcase their group, sharing information about their activities and encouraging more people to participate in social running outside of their regular weekly parkrun.  We are encouraging groups to support their local parkrun by offering to volunteer as well as run, jog or walk at the relay events.

17/47: Celebration Relay Run Report – Swansea Bay parkrun

The Swansea Striders had a great morning at Swansea Bay parkrun, arriving early and having a nice chat with the Run Director and volunteers before the runners arrived – always a great welcome from the friendly team at Swansea.

On a cold morning, and with the marshalling positions all filled, we took up a cheering place along the route. It was great to see so many runners braving the cold conditions with some really fast times on the flat route.

The solid pavement along the prom makes this ‘out and back’ course perfect for everyone, including PB chasers, parkwalkers and wheelchair users.

Starting on The Promenade, heading towards Mumbles, the course is plenty wide enough to comfortably accommodate the 295 runners, joggers and walkers who joined the event this morning.

Catching up with members of For the Love of Trails in South Wales, after the run was great, passing over the baton and chatting with strangers about running – it’s what parkrun is all about!

We look forward to supporting them at the Gnoll parkrun next week and of course being back at Swansea Bay parkrun soon.

This week 295 people walked, jogged or ran the course, of whom 25 were first timers and 31 recorded new Personal Bests.

Representatives of 29 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 28 volunteers: Karen PENNY • Peter DEACON • Mark FAULKNER • Paula STOCKLEY • Hannah BISHOP • Laura STOCKLEY • Tash SMITH • Henry CLARKE • Dewi WEST • Gareth SULLIVAN • Alan GRIFFITHS • Hayden VENTRESS-BRETT • Emma BRETTELL • Rachel WALLIS • Glenn PHILLIPS • Catrin GRIFFITHS • Vickie HUMBER • Alison HOLE • Gareth DOWDELL • Huw BELLAMY • Efa BELLAMY • Malcolm PHILLIPS • Rhian BELLAMY • Lincoln RUSS • Debs HARRIS • Amy THEOBALD • Grace HARRIS • Jamie DAVIES
