The Run Wales Celebration Relay was supported by local social running group, the Bow Street Runners this week as the relay begins its journey south via Aberystwyth parkrun. By sharing the joys and benefits of social running, Run Wales hope to support some new groups in the area join the programme very soon, thus providing more opportunities for people to run together in their local community.
The Celebration relay provides all Run Wales registered groups with a tremendous opportunity to showcase their group, sharing information about their activities and encouraging more people to participate in social running outside of their regular weekly parkrun. We are encouraging groups to support their local parkrun by offering to volunteer as well as run, jog or walk at the relay events.
10/47: Celebration Relay Run Report – Aberystwyth parkrun
What a fantastic week it has been for Bow Street Runners who celebrated their 3rd Birthday on Wednesday the 21st of September with a 6 mile trail run at Bwlch Nant yr Arian, followed by a group run today at the Aberystwyth parkrun.
The parkrun course here begins with an out-and back on the wide middle path through Plascrug park, followed by 3 anticlockwise laps on the outer paths, then onto the middle path again for the finish.
Bow Street Runners participate most Saturday mornings in Aberystwyth parkrun as runners and volunteers and really enjoy the atmosphere and benefits of being a part of this running community. Today ten of us ran as a group together passing the social running celebration baton from one to the other until we reached the finish.
First-timer Sue Wooton was first in her age group, Cindy Davies was third in her age group and first-timer David Binding was third in his age group.
What a wonderful bunch of people to run with. We all enjoyed our run in the fresh air and were able to get the benefits of being active in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere.
Bow Street Runners meet every Wednesday at 10am at the Bow Street Football Club training ground. Sessions include a variety of interval training, specific circuit training, tempo runs, road running, and trail runs usually around 5 miles. Contact the group for further details.
We are planning to have some newly registered groups supporting the next relay location at Llanerchaeron parkrun sharing the joy of social running on October 8th. Please get in touch with irun@runwales.org.uk if you are a member of a social running group that is not currently supported by Run Wales and included in the Group Finder, or are interested in starting one in your local community.
