Are you looking for a way to make your runs more meaningful? Do you want to give back to your community while getting in your miles? Then it’s time to embrace plogging—the eco-friendly fitness trend that combines running with litter picking!

What is Plogging?
Plogging is a simple yet powerful concept: as you run, you pick up litter along the way. Originating in Sweden (from the words “plocka upp,” meaning “pick up,” and “jogging”), this movement has gained traction worldwide. Plogging is not just great for the environment, but it also adds variety to your workout, engaging different muscle groups as you bend, squat, and stretch to collect rubbish.
Join the Keep Wales Tidy ‘Spring Clean 2025’ Campaign
From 21st March to 6th April, Keep Wales Tidy is calling on individuals and groups to take part in their annual Spring Clean 2025 campaign. With over 200 Litter Picking Hubs open across Wales, getting involved has never been easier! These hubs provide free equipment, including litter pickers, hi-vis vests, rubbish bags, and hoops to keep your bags open on windy days.
How Social Running Groups Can Get Involved
If you’re part of a running club or social running group, plogging is a fantastic way to bond, stay active, and make a tangible impact on your local environment. Here’s how you can get started:

- Plan a Plogging Session – Choose a date during the campaign and pick a route that could use some extra care. Parks, trails, and urban pathways often accumulate litter.
- Borrow Equipment – Visit your nearest Caru Cymru Litter Picking Hub and grab the necessary kit for free.
- Spread the Word – Encourage fellow runners, friends, and local community members to join in. The more, the merrier!
- Stay Safe – Wear gloves, be mindful of sharp objects, and use the provided litter pickers.
- Celebrate and Share – Take before-and-after photos of your plogging route, and share them on social media using #PloggingWales and #SpringCleanCymru.
Why Plogging Matters
Plogging is a win-win for both runners and the environment. Not only does it provide an additional workout challenge, but it also promotes community spirit and a cleaner, greener Wales. By incorporating litter picking into your runs, you’re actively tackling pollution and showing pride in your surroundings.
