This week we’re focusing on a Welsh Athletics affiliated club that have also incorporated social running into their club. TROTs (Taff Running & Orienteering Team) Club are based in St Clears, South West Wales, and compete in road, multi-terrain and cross-country races across Wales and the UK.In recent months, the club have also introduced a new social running element that encourages new runners to join the club and provides new runners with a variety of training opportunities.
Run Wales Activator for South West Wales, Sharon Leech said; “TROTs have provided running opportunities for new runners, mainly drawn from the local parkrun, and have encouraged and welcomed new social runners to join the club.”
On Monday evenings, many parkrunners join in for a structured session to increase their 5km speed by improving their agility, balance & coordination. Tuesday evenings follow a similar pattern, but for those who would like to run a little faster. TROTs run a specified session on Wednesdays in Carmarthen encouraging all runners to join in, regardless of ability. The club also meet on a Thursday night where runners of all abilities meet for a social run. In addition, TROTs run 9-week courses of Beginner to 5km training programmes four times a year. The structured sessions put on by the club are organised and coordinated by qualified coaches.
