Coed Cefn-pwll-du parkrun played host to the Run Wales Social Running Celebration Relay as members of RUNNewport stepped into the breach to celebrate the joys of social running whilst enjoying this challenging 5k loop through beautiful forest trails in Caerphilly.
The Celebration relay provides all Run Wales registered groups with a tremendous opportunity to showcase their group, sharing information about their activities and encouraging more people to participate in social running outside of their regular weekly parkrun. We are encouraging groups to support their local parkrun by offering to volunteer as well as run, jog or walk at the relay events.
26/47: Celebration Relay Run Report – Coed Cefn-pwll-du parkrun
On Saturday 11th March, a group of runners from the social running group RUNNewport took part in the Run Wales Social Running Celebration Relay at Coed Cefn-pwll-du parkrun in Caerphilly.
The event was a fantastic opportunity for runners to come together, celebrate the joys of running, and explore the beautiful Welsh countryside.
The 5k route here is a challenging and hilly single loop through a beautiful forest on wide, rugged trail paths. The course is unusual in that it is run entirely on the trails, and with a net elevation of 142m over 5km, it offers a formidable challenge to runners, but every ascent is rewarded by beautiful views.
Despite the challenging terrain, the runners from RUNNewport had a great time, describing the experience as “hilly,” “muddy,” “hard” but most importantly, “fun.”
They had a chance to take photos with the other runners and volunteers at the parkrun, creating a sense of camaraderie among the participants.
The warm welcome given by the volunteers was also something that all the runners appreciated. The volunteers provided excellent support and encouragement, which helped create a positive and inclusive atmosphere at the event.
Together, parkrun events across the country and social running groups such as RUNNewport, are a testament to the power of community and the joy of running. They provide excellent opportunities for runners of all levels to come together, challenge themselves, and support one another.
Furthermore, events like this are an excellent way to promote physical activity, encourage social connections, and promote healthy living. By bringing people together in a fun and supportive environment, social running can have a significant positive impact on the physical and mental wellbeing of the participants.
In conclusion, the Run Wales Social Running Celebration Relay at Coed Cefn-pwll-du parkrun was a great success, providing runners with a challenging and rewarding experience while promoting the benefits of physical activity and community engagement.
