Volunteer numbers swell at Llanishen Park parkrun in a double celebration

A running club take-over event at Llanishen Park parkrun by San Domenico RC simply added to the fun as Run Wales registered group, Moti Albany Road Run Club were handed the Social Running Celebration Relay baton by the Trelai, 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer group.

The Celebration relay provides all Run Wales registered groups with a tremendous opportunity to showcase their group, sharing information about their activities and encouraging more people to participate in social running outside of their regular weekly parkrun.  We are encouraging groups to support their local parkrun by offering to volunteer as well as run, jog or walk at the relay events.

31/47: Celebration Relay Run Report – Llanishen Park parkrun

This week the Celebration Relay Baton went to Llanishen Park parkrun, transported there safe and sound by Lucy Gordon from Trelai, 5k Your Way.

Lucy was greeted by Dave from Moti Albany Road Run Club, who had members running and volunteering at the event.

Dave, Lucy, and Moti members had great fun running around the course and exchanging the baton (after all, that is what you do with a run baton isn’t it???) whilst insisting that fellow volunteer Craig Blake took videos of them doing so. Thanks Craig!!

Moti are a friendly, local run club based in Roath – they cater for all types of runners, of whatever pace, fast or chilled out, in fact they offer sessions during the week where you can do both! If you want a nice social run they can help. If you want to improve your running they can help that too. Most members love doing both! Check them out at motialbany.uk

This week the main stars at Llanishen Park parkrun however were San Domenico RC, who filled most of the volunteer roster as they were doing a takeover. Well done to them. Here is there official parkrun report, from their club member Harry Trend:

Well done to everyone who got out in the Spring sunshine to run at Llanishen Park parkrun this morning. This morning’s event was made by upwards of 42 volunteers. We hope you enjoyed the atmosphere running around the course today!

The volunteers were mostly made up of members from my club, San Domenico RC, one of the friendliest running clubs in Cardiff. We train on Tuesdays and Thursdays; all are welcome to join! You might see us at your next running event, we race in navy vests with a red stripe. That’s not forgetting members of Moti Albany Road Run Club too who also gave up their time to volunteer.

We also had Paul Stillman and Patrick So offering their photography services to help us to remember the occasion.  You can find their photo albums on social media.

Off the back of running his 250th parkrun last week, Ron Morris was our run director this morning. He might not thank me for saying this, but Ron is a huge part of San Domenico RC and has been a member of the club since the 1980s!

There were four pacers this morning too, with the newly-married Andy Gardiner, Megan Poulson, Toby Culling and Helen Perry taking on this tricky task.

5k Your Way is a community-based initiative, which supports and encourages anyone affected by cancer to exercise. They meet on the last Saturday of every month at Trelai Park parkrun.

Thanks to Patrick So for this week’s fabulous photos!
