MEET THE TEAM:

Ian Thorne - Coach in Running Fitness
I'm Ian and I'm a founding member of Seriously Mad Runners. Set up in 2014, our aim has always been to provide a safe running environment for all participants regardless of ability and experience, from total beginners to seasoned Marathon runners. I have been a Run Leader for 6 years and a Run Coach for 4 years. My running journey started in 2011 after a nervous trip to Cardiff parkrun and since then I have progressed to Marathon runner and Ultra Marathon runner. Since starting Seriously Mad Runners I have met many interesting and inspiring people who I am also happy to call friends.

Claire Thorne - Coach in Running Fitness
I'm Claire Louise and I have been a Leader in Running Fitness for 4 years, I qualified as a Coach in Running Fitness in October 2021. I enjoy supporting others who feel that they can not run or they have been told by others that it is no good for them or they won't be able to do it. This is something that I have faced myself, I am not your typical runner. SMR was created to provide a safe running space for all abilities, somewhere everyone could have support and no one was left to run on their own, there is no pressure to run at a certain pace we are here for everyone.

David Mark Harris - Coach in Running Fitness
My name is Mark and I’ve been a run leader with SMR for 4 years and recently qualified as running coach in fitness.  SMR were the first running club I ran with and having enjoyed their sessions and met many new friends decided that I would try and help encourage other runners.  It’s great to see people enjoy the sessions and improve their fitness and technique.

Simon James - Leader in Running Fitness
My name is Simon and I have been a run leader with SMR for 18 months.
SMR is the second or third club that I have joined but is the most friendly, supportive and inclusive of them all.  The sense of Family within the club is fantastic and someone is always willing to help and encourage you no matter what your level. Regular Technical and fitness sessions break up the season along with a few Non-fitness activities
Cherim Nicholls - Leader in Running Fitness (Trainee)
I’m currently training to be a run leader for SMR after joining them in 2020.  I’ve had great support from SMR in getting back to running and have really enjoyed the ethos of the group as a friendly club that caters for all abilities.  I’m looking forward to completing my training and inspiring others to enjoy running for the benefit of their physical and mental health.
