The First Steps Programme – The Pre-Running Preparation Plan

So a little bird told you that running is awesome and you should try it! Well we at Run Wales can confirm that what you’ve heard is indeed true! But where do you start?

If you’re new to exercise it is important to take things slowly, right now we are all being encouraged to make use of our daily exercise but please don’t run before you can walk, quite literally!
We are mindful that with the Lockdown restrictions some of you will be making your first steps to becoming more active in isolation. Therefore in order to lend a virtual helping hand, we have created the First Steps Programme which includes two new gradual plans to ease you into running. Today we will focus on the first of those, our Pre-Running Preparation Plan designed for those who are not quite ready for the jogging phase. Tomorrow we will feature our Run Your First Mile Plan.
The Pre-Running Preparation Plan
Purpose: Preparation for your first attempt at running
Duration: 4 weeks, 4 days per week

Equipment: All you need are comfortable clothes (lightweight layers are best) and a pair of trainers. Don’t forget to tie those laces up properly!

Safety: Always tell someone where you’re going and what you’re doing. Better still, go out with a member of the family, for example your children could cycle or scoot along side you.
