Top Tips for Run Leaders

In our latest series of #TopTips, we hear from our Qualified Run Leaders on the positive experiences that leading a running group can bring!

  1. Becoming a Run Leader -“I wasn’t a runner at all, in fact it had been several years since I’d last gone for a run. Helping a group of people through the process whilst experiencing exactly what they were going through at the same time really helped. I could relate to how they were feeling and it pushed me on to complete the Couch to 5k programme myself.”
  2. Leading a Group“It’s very helpful to have a group of volunteers that support me with each session. I don’t see it as a big commitment, because it gives me a sense of purpose and enjoyment to see others coming through the same process that I did. Several runners from our Couch to 5k programmes offer to help out with the sessions after graduating”
  3. Benefits of being a Run Leader -“Leading a group has been a life changing experience for me. I’m now enjoying running and it’s helped reduce my stress levels and improve my mental health no end. Passing on the knowledge and experience I’ve gained from becoming a qualified Run Leader has been an extremely positive experience”
  4. Support from Run Wales -“The support I’ve received from our Run Wales Activator has been superb. There’s always support available whenever any questions or issues arise. Our activator visits the group regularly and helps ensure our Couch to 5k programme is running smoothly. Having an activator on hand is reassuring, especially as I had limited experience when I first qualified as a leader”
  5. Being a part of the Run Leader Network -“Leading a running group has enabled me to make a lot of new friends in the process. I always feel like I’m able to relate to other group members. I look forward to further developing my Run Leader experience and hope to inspire other members of our group to become qualified Leaders in Running Fitness in the future”
