Mynydd Du offer chance to prove mountains are no obstacle to running

In April we asked Mynydd Du if the Club would consider offering a mountain running taster sessions for new runners.  Many of Welsh Athletics’ clubs offer beginner groups, often using the Couch to 5k model to help those who’ve never run before, get started. But as mountain running is a little more challenging than your average beginner run, we asked that people already had some running fitness before attending a session.

Club member, Emma, an experienced mountain runner and run leader, leads sessions on a Wednesday, which are proving popular, with at least 10 turning up each week.  As a result, quite a few have entered local mountain or fell running races and seven people have affiliated to Mynydd Du.

“The Club continues to host the Wednesday sessions, with two groups of different abilities now being offered.  A huge thank you to the Club and the run leaders and well-done runners for giving something new a go!”

If you fancy trying something different with your running, check out what your local athletics club are offering, or speak to us about setting up your own opportunities.
