Our congratulations to all at Clwb Run Wales Partner Group, Porth Eirias Runners, who successfully hosted a 12-hour charity relay on Saturday 29th March, raising £2,100 for several vital causes. What a wonderful example of how a social running group can use activity in their community to support others and raise awareness. Da iawn pawb!
The relay took place along the Colwyn Bay promenade, with over 60 runners, many dressed in fancy dress tutus, completing one-hour time slots from Porth Eirias towards Rhos on Sea and back. The team then passed the baton on to the next group. It started at 5am, with the first group running in darkness, and the last group finishing at 5pm
The Porth Eirias Runners and their family members came together to show support for those in the group who are taking on their own running challenges for the charities, such as the TCS London Marathon.
The charity relay raised money for local and national charities, including: MND, MIND, Suicide & Co, Cruse Bereavement Support, Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide, Alzheimer’s Society, St Barnabas House Hospice, Diabetes UK and St David’s Hospice.
Throughout the day, runners carried collection buckets and held a tombola stall to gather donations, and to celebrate completion, the group finished the evening with a fundraising social and prize raffle.
Volunteer Run leader and organiser Paula Jones said: “I am so proud of our run group members, everyone rallied together and made it a fantastic day. Thank you to everyone that helped, supported, donated and joined in the fun and a special thanks to Woody’s Lodge for allowing us to use their facilities for the social. Everyone’s generosity has been outstanding.“
Porth Eirias Runners are a mixed social running group for all ages and abilities. Everyone is welcome to join whether it’s to train for a race or just to get out, meet new people and have a chat while getting active. They meet Mondays and Wednesdays at Porth Eirias, Colwyn Bay 6:30am and 6:30pm.
