This week’s parkrun of the week is the Colby parkrun, which takes place at 9a.m every Saturday morning at Colby Woodland Garden near Amroth in Pembrokeshire. The Colby parkrun has surpassed the 200-event mark and averages almost 100 runners per week!
The Colby parkrun played host to the inspiration Helen Lewis who ran her 100th parkrun event last weekend (22nd July). Three years ago, Helen suffered a cardiac arrest and her running career looked to be in doubt. However, she fought back and cites the parkrun as a major factor in inspiring her to get her trainers back on and get running again. Helen praised the volunteers and fellow parkrunners at the Colby parkrun saying “Everyone here at Colby Parkrun, whether volunteer or runner, is so welcoming, supportive and encouraging. I wanted to take this chance to thank you all – thank you all one hundred times!”
The Colby parkrun is a 3 lap undulating course along trail paths through the meadow and woodlands. The terrain is mostly gravel tracks but crosses some compact earth and grass, so can accumulate puddles after period of rain. The Colby parkrun relies on it’s hard-working and dedicated group of volunteers who help set-up the event and allow it to run smoothly for all parkrunners every weekend.
Every week, volunteers, spectators and runners at the Colby parkrun grab a post-run coffee at the Colby Woodland Garden tearoom!
