A new member of the Llanelli AC/ DW Running Group – Roxanne Turner tells her running story and how she used running as a method to help overcome anxiety and depression:
“About 3 years ago I suffered badly from depression and anxiety which got to a point where I didn’t want to leave the house and it was gradually getting worse. My dad told me to go out walking to take my mind off things and get some fresh air instead of seeing the same four walls! The walking was helping so I decided to try jogging which made me feel even better!
This is where I decided to enter my first race, the Race for life 5k! I completed it and the feeling I had was amazing – I was hooked! Running eventually became the escape from my worries and each month was getting better and better! I could see improvements, so I decided to join a social running group which helped me socialise whilst doing the thing I loved… win-win! I’ve entered many races since, but my biggest achievement was completing the London Marathon this year, I pushed myself to show that I can do anything if I put my mind to it! Running has changed my life 😊”
