Run Wales is taking part in Volunteers Week (June 1 – 7) to thank and celebrate our brilliant volunteers and the positive impact they make to our community.
Volunteers’ Week is a UK wide and annual festival of volunteering, established in 1984, that recognises the contribution volunteers make to our communities every day.
This year, recognition of our nation’s volunteers is more important than ever. It is hoped that all individuals, across all sectors of Wales will unite to share messages to thank volunteers and celebrate the power of volunteering to bring communities together and to be there when needed.
The Volunteers Week campaign will predominantly take place online this year. We would love to showcase as many people as possible from across the entire running community, filling our social media channels and news feed with your thanks. In order to do this we are asking for your nominations;
- Who has inspired you (as well as more recently during the COVID-19 lockdown period!)?
- Who are the real unsung heroes?
- Without whom could your group not operate?
- Who do you know who has kept your group engaged with online content and engagement?
- During this time, do you know a key worker linked to the sport that we can say a special thank you to?

Your thank you doesn’t need to be long. Just a few sentences would be a huge boost for our volunteers.
If possible, we’d love for you to share your thanks via your own social media channels, such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram between June 1st and 7th too. We are using the hashtag #VolunteersWeek.
We also encourage our community to join the #ClapforVolunteers (alongside the #ClapforCarers) event at 8pm on Thursday 4th June as a nationwide expression of thanks for volunteers.
We completely appreciate you are very busy. But volunteers are vital for our work, so we hope you are able to help us with this worthy campaign.
