Athletics 365 – 3 small things to improve your running technique

Run Leaders as you all know you now all have free access to Athletics 365 , YAY! To help you use this fantastic resource we have picked out a few bits that could be of particular interest to Run Leaders and their groups . . .

3 small things to improve your running technique

  1. Dynamic balance with upper/lower limb coordination – improve the ability to control the body during movement, try the Stork and the lunge in Section 5.
  2. Be prepared for twists and turns by working on your agility – try the Ladder drills in Section 8. No ladder? No problem, use sticks or bamboo canes from the garden just like Jo Pavey!
  3. Increase the Pace – try these challenges in Section 16 to work on your steady and sustained paced runs. Use visual cues such as trees or lampposts to increase the distance. (Steady running is defined as approximately 70%-80% of maximum heart rate. Sustained Pace Running is approximately 80%-90%+ of maximum heart rate.)

Share with us and your fellow leaders how you get on with these sections and any others you’ve found particularly useful – Happy Developing!

Interested in what you’ve read but not entirely sure what is Athletics 365?

Athletics 365 is a multi-event development programme.

It introduces athletes to the fundamental skills of athletics, focusing not only on how fast someone runs but also, more importantly, on developing the technical skills (‘how’ to run).

The programme is broken down into nine progressive stages. Each stage provides athletes with new and progressively more difficult challenges appropriate to their stage of development.
